Impromptu

Playful, Textured, Felt

This whimsical series combines hand drawn imagery, individually recorded dance performances, and computer processing to connect artists through shared screen space and behind the scenes activities in a time of prolonged COVID isolation.

About

Highly crafted, yet spontaneously felt, the Impromptu series includes five experimental screendances commissioned by Debra Noble, the California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) Director of Dance Repertory and Performance with direction and editing by Charlotte, original music by Aaron Chavez with Natalia Yates, visual art by Michelle Oosterbaan, and visual effects by Jaime Cano. During the height of the COVID pandemic shut-downs, the ensemble of CSUF dancers assembled do-it-yourself green screen kits while isolating at home and recorded their individual performances. The solo performances were collaged into shared 2D and 2.5D space playing with the push and pull of dimensional elasticity.
