Nevertheless, She Persisted by Mariángeles Soto-Díaz

About

Building on the Gentle Prowess Deliberations project, Nevertheless, She Persisted (and danced) is a durational art performance by multimedia artist Mariángeles Soto-Díaz that addresses our responses to violence through a feminist lens, thinking Fifth Wave feminism, #niunamenos, finding allies, moments of repair and dance in the same space. Nevertheless... gestures beyond the politics of emergency as a call to imagine the power-strength of composite languages and solidarity.

In early 2023, Soto-Diaz commissioned Charlotte Griffin to develop a durational movement score that embodied collective resistance, empowerment, and solidarity for an ensemble of nine female-identifying performers that included a diverse group of visual artists, performance artists, and dancers. Griffin devised and led opening and closing breathing cycles, meditation, and movement sequences to support the performers as they engaged with the sensitive material presented in the work.
